i bought several packages of button mushrooms that were on sale. i’d like to serve deep fried mushrooms for tomorrow’s football game. any help would be appreciated.

Beer Battered Mushrooms

* 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon pepper
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
* 2 egg yolks
* 3/4 cup beer

Mix together the flour, salt, pepper, oil and egg yolks. Gradually whisk in the beer. Refrigerate the batter 3 to 4 hours before using. Dip mushrooms in the batter. Deep-fry in batches in 370° oil until golden brown.

Crispy Fried Mushrooms

8 oz. whole fresh mushrooms
1/2 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. paprika
Dash pepper
1/2 c. buttermilk
Oil for frying

Mix flour, salt, mustard, paprika and pepper in large bag. Set aside. Place buttermilk in small bowl. Dip a few mushrooms at a time in buttermilk. Place in bag with flour mixture. Shake to coat. Heat 2 to 3 inches of oil in deep fryer or heavy saucepan to 375 degrees. Fry a few mushrooms at a time, 2 to 3 minutes, or until deep golden brown, turning over several times.

No Fry Deep Fried Mushrooms Recipe
I love deep fried mushrooms but if you don’t like the deep fry part, use this as a basic recipe, mix it up and add whatever spices/flavors you want.

* 8 ounces cleaned whole button mushrooms
* 2 Tbsp flour
* 1/4 cup bread crumbs
* 2 egg whites
* 2-3 Tbsp Olive oil
* Salt

Preheat oven to 400. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and about 2 tsp of salt. (keep the mushrooms whole.) Saute them for about 10 minutes, the idea is to have the mushrooms give up some water while adding some flavor. Remove the mushrooms from the pan and let them cool for about 5 minutes. Put the flour in a zip lock bag or a plastic container with a lid and add about a tsp of salt to the flour. Add the mushrooms to the flour and shake them up to coat. Remove the shrooms from the flour. Beat the 2 egg whites together in a bowl and add the mushrooms, again just to coat them with egg. Put the bread crumbs in a bowl or plastic container and add the mushrooms. Shake them around to coat them as much as you can with the bread crumbs. Place the shrooms on a baking sheet (I just put them on tin foil) and put in the oven for 15 minutes.
